SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Chris Balsley Patricia’s guest, Chris Balsley, Professional Certified Coach, shares what he’s found in his work with leaders at all levels in organizations, from high-level government and military leaders to executives. A recent study at UCLA indicated 93% of communication comes from our nonverbal cues such as body posture, vocal intonation, and eye contact. Only 7% of communication comes from the actual words we use yet most current human development programs, leadership training programs and motivational courses only focus on the verbal 7%. The interview will focus on the remaining 93% of communication and how the human body not only transmits and processes information but more importantly how it influences and controls the brain. Chris says, “Don’t worry about your intention or what you ‘meant to say’ and instead focus on the impact your words have. Was what people hear the same as what you intended? If not how could you shape yourself to increase the impact of your message?

BIO:
Chris Balsley has maintained a thriving and diverse professional practice for well over twenty-five years. The scope of his practice covers many domains from corporate and executive coaching to leadership development to organizational, team and individual trainings. Most of his work is body-centered, performance focused and grounded in basic human neurobiology principals. Chris has dedicated a large portion of his career to helping individuals and teams increase their performance. He accomplishes this by teaching leaders how to mitigate the effects of workplace stress, how to listen effectively and speak more powerfully. One of Chris’s gifts is the ability to demonstrate the deep connection between leadership and the human body. Chris’s present focus is on inspiring leaders to become the most effective leaders they can become, especially in the face of adversity. Chris’s coaching clients include leaders at all levels in organizations, from high-level government and military leaders to executives in Fortune 500 companies. In addition Chris designs, implements and presents experiential, multi-method training programs that stand-alone and that are integrated into several public and corporate programs. Since 2009 he has designed and implemented company-wide leadership and communication classes at ESI Inc. (a HunterDouglas company) and provided on-going leadership training and coaching at the senior management and C-suite level. Previously, Chris worked for Magis Group LLC, providing services to the US government. These training services included military units deploying to and returning from Afghanistan and Iraq in which 10,000 soldiers were trained.

Gail Rappolt, PCC

SHOW DEGail RappoltSCRIPTION:
Patricia interviews Gail Rappolt, PCC, who says planning for retirement tends to be about managing finances and health benefits, but says little about how to manage feelings, family and time. The central issue is actually determining what the person will do with the 60-80 hours per week that s/he was actively engaged in work or thinking about it while commuting or doing mundane chores. Coaching Demystifying Retirement is a specific way of thinking about transitions. Ideally clients begin coaching a few months to a year before they plan to leave their long time profession. The first complex question is whether or not the client wants to use the word retired which has significant implications. The coaching then centers on how they wish to leave their workplace, both as leader and as individual. Finally determining what comes next begins. It is a creative and inspiring process both for coach and client. Gail encourages you to find a coach to support you planning the rest of your life.

BIO:
Gail Rappolt is a dynamic, creative executive and personal coach whose warmth, knowledge of human behaviour and positive energy provide an outstanding learning opportunity for her clients. Her background as a successful senior leader in large organizations brings awareness of the complexities faced by her clients and the coaching skills to help them find their own solutions. Gail has held senior management positions in the public sector and leadership roles on Boards of volunteer and professional organizations. She has been an Executive Coach at the Niagara Institute since 1999. Gail’s current focus is professionals who are transitioning out of executive careers and wondering what next. Her strength is helping them access their passion and create direction to merge passion and purpose in the next stage of their lives. Demystifying Retirement is a must for professionals contemplating leaving their senior executive roles.
